While the bowling combination looks straightforward with three pacers leading the line including Shardul Thakur, Dravid has to decide on the second and third seamer. Arshdeep Singh on his T20I debut bowled excellently. After not getting a chance in the ODI series against England, he is likely to finally get the nod. That brings to the question, who will be the third seamer? Prasidh Krishna or Mohammed Siraj?
India Playing XI vs WI: Why Arshdeep Singh is preferred option?
- Arshdeep Singh is a reliable option as a death-overs specialist and with T20 World Cup around the corner, he is still in plans.
- After getting no chance in the England ODI series, he is now favourite to come in.
- The other reason is that both Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna were expensive in their outings against England.
- While they are still the best options considering experience, Dravid would want to see more of Arshdeep to keep him ready as a backup seamer for T20 World Cup.
- In his only T20, Arshdeep gave away just 18 runs in his 3.3 overs, bagging two wickets.
- With no Hardik Pandya in the ODI series, India will need a third seamer and that is where he fits the bill perfectly.

India Playing XI vs WI: Who will open with Dhawan and who make it to middle-order?
- The biggest headache for Dravid is the opening slot.
- Barring Dhawan, India have options in Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson.
- While Ishan Kishan is the frontrunner, it is the left-right combination that will be the focal point of discussion.
- India might prefer a left-right combination for the opening and in that case, Shubman Gill might get the nod with Ishan at No 3.
- The middle-order looks crowded with Deepak Hooda, Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer competing for two spots.
- As Suryakumar Yadav is preferred No 4, it’s between Deepak Hooda, Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson.
- However, considering Hooda can bowl a few overs and Shreyas Iyer ahead in the pecking order, the two are likely to make the XI.

As for other roles, Ravindra Jadeja, who is the vice-captain for the series, is likely to play any part in the ODI series. As per the latest reports, the all-rounder has a left knee problem and is going to miss the 1st ODI. The Board is likely to rest Jadeja in fear of not aggravating his injury. It is believed that Jadeja will be available for the T20I series. Axar Patel will take Jadeja’s spot in the squad.
