- After warming the bench in the T20Is after Sri Lanka, England and New Zealand series, IPL 2021’s second-highest wicket-taker Avesh Khan was keen for the T20I cap.
- He had impressed with his exceptional performance for Delhi Capitals to help them lead the points table. But with stiff competition from senior pros like Jasprit Bumrah & Mohd Shami, he missed out.
- Now, he finally got a place in the shortest format after missing the ODI series. He was signed for Rs 10 crore by Lucknow Super Giants for IPL 2022.
India Playing XI 3rd T20: Ruturaj Gaikwad to open with Ishan Kishan The wait is over for Ruturaj Gaikwad. Despite a rich form, Ruturaj Gaikwad has been India’s bench warmer for the last three series. However, with Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli both unavailable for the 3rd T20 at the Eden Gardens, he will finally make a comeback.
After making a modest debut against Sri Lanka in the T20 series, Ruturaj Gaikwad burst into form, taking the IPL 2021 Orange Cap and top-scorer crown in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. However, despite calling him up for the T20 series against New Zealand and West Indies, he has been overlooked in Ishan Kishan’s favour.

But as Virat Kohli has left the bio-bubble and returned home ahead of the 3rd T20, Ruturaj is all set for a comeback.
Why Ruturaj Gaikwad got the chance?
- After scoring just 21 and 14 in two T20Is against Sri Lanka, he was largely overlooked.
- Ruturaj made a strong comeback in the 2nd phase of the IPL and finished as the Orange Cap holder with 635 runs in 16 matches at an average of 45.35.
- In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he smashed 603 runs at a staggering average of 150.75 including four centuries in five matches.
