India ODI Squad SA Series – Prithvi Shaw Ignored: Prithvi Shaw is considered to be one of the most dangerous and attacking opening batsman in the country. He is consistently performing at the IPL and Domestic level. Still BCCI and the selectors have ignored Shaw’s selection for the upcoming ODI Series vs South Africa.   • Shaw has been in stunning form with the bat in domestic and List A cricket recently.
  • The right-handed batter mustered 315 runs from two games in the Duleep Trophy 2022 at a fantastic average of 105.00.
  • The talented youngster was a part of the India A team that played in the recently concluded 50-over games series against New Zealand A. He featured in two matches and finished with 94 runs.

 

The three-match ODI series between India and South Africa will be played across three venues – Lucknow, Ranchi, and Delhi from October 6.

INDIA ODI SQUAD SA Series – IND SA ODI Series: Shikhar Dhawan as expected will lead while Shreyas Iyer has been named the deputy. Interestingly, Iyer, Deepak Chahar, Ravi Bishnoi and Mohammed Siraj will remain in India for the ODI series. They will join the T20 World Cup squad after the ODI series. Sanju Samson has also been recalled for the ODI series. Mukesh Kumar and Rajat Patidar have been given a maiden call-up.

India’s three-match ODI series will be played from October 6 and will end on October 11. However, in just six days of the last ODI, Team India will play a warm-up match against Australia before the T20 WC. Hence, India T20 WC squad will leave for Australia by October 10 to acclimate to the conditions and time zones. That is why the board has decided to have a completely separate squad for the ODI series.

IND vs SA ODI Series: Takeaways from ODI squad for SA series?

  • As Team India plays Australia in the first T20 World Cup warm-up match on October 17, all members of the 15-member squad have been rested from the SA ODI series.
  • Rohit Sharma & Co will leave for Australia on October 6TH
  • The early departure will help in acclimating to the Australian conditions and time zones.
  • India will begin with intra-squad practice matches before the warm-up games.
  • As for the ODI series, the players who have not made it to the T20 WC, have been picked besides the reserve players.
  • Shikhar Dhawan will lead the side. Shreyas Iyer has been named the deputy
  • The likes of Rahul Tripathi are expected to make their debut in the series.
  • VVS Laxman will be in-charge of the series as Rahul Dravid will leave with the T20 WC squad.
