Rohit Sharma New Test Captain: The BCCI official further informed InsideSport that selectors will also speak to Rohit on his workload & fitness related issues.
“The workload will be immense. He need to keep himself very agile and fit. I think the selectors will have a word with him. He will have to work to extra-bit on his fitness”, said the BCCI official.
The selectors after the India tour of South Africa will select the team for whiteball series against the West Indies.
The announcement of Rohit Sharma’s elevation as India’s new test captain will be made after the selection committee meeting.
The home test series against Sri Lanka will be Rohit’s first official assignment as India’s new test captain.
The board is also planning to groom KL Rahul & Rishabh Pant as leaders of the future. According to sources in BCCI, the debate is not on who will be the next captain – but the debate is on ‘who will be made the vice-captain’ of the team.
“The Vice-Captain will be India’s future leader. KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah all are future leaders. The selectors need to groom them in a proper structured manner. Selectors need to make a big choice on who will be made the vice-captain of the Indian test team”, the BCCI official further informed InsideSport.

Rohit Sharma looking ‘SUPER-FIT’– Rohit on his part is currently training hard at the National Cricket Academy. According to available information he has trained very hard in last few weeks & along with rehab for the injured hamstring, he has also worked on reducing his weight.
In a bid to look fitter & slimmer, the India white-ball captain has reduced his weight considerably by 6 kgs.

- As per BCCI’s policy, each and every player has to mandatorily appear for fitness tests at the NCA before being awarded ‘fit to play’ certificates.
- With Virat Kohli stepping down as captain, there is a need for Rohit to remain injury-free to lead the current set-up.
“Rohit’s rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) is going pretty well. He is expected to be okay for the West Indies series. It’s still close to three weeks from now before the first ODI is played in Ahmedabad on February 6,” a BCCI source privy to developments told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
