Avinash Sable – silver in 3000m steeplechase

Avinash Sable has been one of the most consistent Indian performers for India at the international level too. But his silver medal finish at the CWG 2022 is the biggest feat of an Indian in CWG 2022. With the discipline being dominated by Kenyans, he broke that dominance with a run of 8:11. 20 to win silver. Else, before the race started, the Kenyans were expected to make a clean sweep in the top three position. With that silver, he also became the first person in Indian history to win a medal at the 3000m steeplechase.

Lawn bowl women’s fours gold

The star quartet of Lovely Choubey, Pinki, Nayanmoni Saikia and RupaRani Tirkey surprised one an all with their elusive gold in the Lawn Bowl women’s four competition in Birmingham. The quartet defeated top team like New Zealand and South Africa, which are strong in the event, to make it even more stunning. In fact, they should be credited with introducing the discipline to India.

The Indians are gradually making a name for themselves in the triple jump events. Eldhose Paul introduced himself to the world with a surprise gold medal finish in the men’s triple jump. With a jump of 17.03, he clinched gold. Besides his effort, Abdulla Aboobacker also took home the silver with a jump of 17.02 to make it even more memorable. It is rare to see two Indians finish in the top two, especially in the track and field events.

Achanta Sharath delivered a top-notch performance in Birmingham. He won an impressive four medal in his fourth appearance. The biggest highlight was his gold medal in the final day, where he defeated Englishman Liam Pitchford to win gold. Interestingly, he won the singles gold after a gap of 16 years. He last won in the 2006 Games. However, what tops it all is that he achieved this feat as a 40-year-old.

Tejaswin Shankar bronze

His bronze medal is a stuff of dreams. Even a week before the CWG started, there was no uncertainty about him featuring in Birmingham. The high jumper finally got the nod few days ahead of the Games. So much so that the athlete watched the CWG opening ceremony from his sofa at home. When the time came to deliver, he jumped 2.22 to finish in the third place and achieve the feat despite all the odds.
