However, it was not a smooth sailing for the Indian athlete, who had to pull her socks up in the final and third attempt to make it to the final at Oregon.

She started off on a poor note in the first attempt. She registered a foul, and things did not look good when other throwers threw the spear quite well. The Indian was at the bottom half in Qualification B.
There was some sort of improvement in her second attempt. She registered a clean throw, but the spear did not travel long distance. The tip of the spear hit the ground after travelling in the air for 55.35m. It meant Annu had to go all out in the third throw to make it to the final.

The second attempt might not have been her best throw, but that throw did give her slight confidence of doing better.
Finally, when the moment came for her to show her skill and power, Annu delivered with her best throw in the final attempt. She threw the spear 59.60, which helped her finish fifth in Qualification B. Overall, she was eighth.

Who was the best thrower in Qualification? Amongst the 12 athletes, who have made it to the final of the women’s javelin throw, Haruka Kitaguchi was the best. She registered a throw of 64.32, helping her attain direct qualification.
In fact, only three throwers made it directly to the finals. The other two were Shiying Liu and Liveta Jasiunaite, who threw 63.86m and 63.80m respectively. The automatic qualifying mark stood at 62.50.
