India at Tokyo Olympics – Indian wrestlers at Tokyo Olympics: Let’s look at five wrestlers who can win Olympic medals for India

Ravi Kumar Dahiya

Ravi Kumar Dahiya, on the back of his gold medal-winning performance at the 2021 Asian Championships, will be the favourite to finish on the podium in the 57kg category. He has also won a bronze medal at the 2019 World Wrestling Championships in this category.

Bajrang Punia

Bajrang Punia representing India in the men’s freestyle 65kg category, is the best bet for winning an Olympic medal. He has three world championship medals to his name, which no other wrestler in this contingent has. The wrestler won bronze in 2013, silver in 2018 and bronze in the 2019 World Championships. The 27-years-old wrestler will also be the flag bearer for the country in the Tokyo Olympics closing ceremony.

Deepak Punia

Deepak Punia’s silver medal finish at the 2019 World Wrestling championships speaks volumes about his calibre. He recently won a silver in the 2021 Asian Championships making him the dark horse favourite going into the Olympics.

Vinesh Phogat

If not for that injury, Vinesh Phogat could have very well landed on the podium at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The former world number one will be competing in the 53 kg and is one of the bright medal prospects for India. Her most significant performance was winning bronze at the 2019 World Wrestling Championships.

Anshu Malik

Anshu Malik is a 19-years-old wrestler and if she wins a medal for India, that will be some story to cherish. She recently won a gold medal in the 57kg category at the 2021 Asian Championships and will be the wrestler to watch out at the Olympics.
