Sarfaraz’s astonishing form with the willow, especially in the white flannels, has grabbed the eyeballs of many.

Why jersey No 97?

Sarfaraz changed his jersey from 86 to 97 as a mark of respect to his father. In Hindi, 9 and 7 are ‘nau and saat’, which becomes ‘Naushad’ when said together in a rhyming way.

Despite dominating all the attacks he has faced in domestic cricket, Sarfaraz had a relatively quiet outing against New Zealand-A, scoring 36, 0, and 63. The Mumbai batter will now set his eyes on writing the new chapter in Bangladesh.

India under Abhimanyu Easwaran on Thursday headed for Dhaka for two four-day matches that will take place from November 29 to December 2 and again from December 6 to 9. It will coincide with the India-Bangladesh three-match ODI series that begins on December 4.
