IND-W vs SL-W LIVE: India clinch first ODI by 4 wickets after Sri Lanka’s late fightback comes Too little and Too late: Check 1st ODI Highlights

India seal first ODI –

The Indian team made a poor start to the match as they lost Smrithi Mandhana early in the innings. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Harleen Deol were the architects of the win after they held one end.

India lost Harmanpreet Kaur on 44 as she missed out on a fifty. Sri Lanka did manage to make a mini-comeback after they had India at 138/6. However, this came too little and too late for hosts. Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar held their nerves to win see off the contest and register the win. Pooja scored the winning six as India won by 12 overs to spare.

Earlier in the morning, Sri Lanka Women won the toss and opted to bat. Renuka Singh gave India the 1st BREAKTHROUGH as SriLankan captain Athapaththu was out for just 4.

Deepti Sharma & Renuka kept denting the SriLankan batting with regular strikes. The home team innings finally folded up in 49th over for just 171.

Indian Women cricket team has started a new era today under Harmanpreet Kaur. Team is playing its 1st ODI in almost a decade without Mithali Raj & Jhulan Goswami.

India-W vs SriLanka-W LIVE: The absence of international cricket’s most prolific duo is just one of several concerns for captain Kaur ahead of the ODI series opener.

The Indians made a positive start to the tour of island nation by winning the T20I series 2-1 but their performance was far from perfect and while the format will change, the regulars in the side would be keen to put up a dominant display against the lowly-ranked (ninth) Sri Lanka.

The batters struggled on the slow track at Dambulla, unable to breach the 140-run mark in all three T20Is and the likes of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma would hope for a better and consistent show in the 50-over format.

The last time India played a 50 over match was during the World Cup in March, when the failed to qualify for the semi-finals. The Indian batting unit has failed to fire as a group back then and would be eager to rectify its weaknesses.

Kaur herself has been in good touch. After finishing as the highest run-getter for her side in the T20 series, it will auger well for India if the skipper can continue her top form as alongside all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar.

Young wicketkeeper Richa Gosh, who shone in the in the series against New Zealand earlier this year, will be on the look-out for a good show even though team management used Yastika Bhatia as a stop-gap keeper in one of the T20I games.
