Chasing a modest target of 138, India were off to the worst possible start, losing Sabbhineni Meghana and Jemimah Rodrigues inside the powerplay. But it was Jemimah’s wicket that would disappoint captain Harmanpreet Kaur. On a slow wicket, when batters struggled, she tried to hit on every ball.

Despite missing her shots, she tried to go again against Nida Dar and gave away a leading edge and a catch to Tuba Hassan. While Smriti Mandhana anchored with a 17-run knock, trying to build a partnership with Dayalan Hemalatha, she fell prey to Nashra Sandhu in the 10th over. Then, India’s famed batting order collapsed yet again in a T20 match.
Dayalan Hemalatha (22) followed Pooja Vastrakar (5) back. While Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma kept the hopes alive with a 26-run stand, the two departed in quick succession. Deepti (16 off 11) departed in the 16th over, followed by Harmanpreet (12) in the next over. With the pressure of asking rate mounting, Richa Ghosh, who had to be taken to the dressing room following a sun-stroke, hit top gear.
Congratulations, Pakistan! This one is for all those who doubted you and wrote you off yesterday 🔥

Richa smashed 1 four and three sixes to take India closer to the target. But her 13-ball 26-run effort wasn’t enough. With her wicket in 19th over, India’s chances vanished completely. In the end, with Rajeshwari Gayakwad cleaned up by Aiman Anwar, India were bowled out for 124. This was India’s first loss of the campaign. However, despite the defeat, India retain the top spot in points table with 6 points, edging Pakistan on Net Run Rate.

Earlier, Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof won the toss and opted to bat. Harmanpreet comes in, though Shafali Verma continues to stay out. Pakistan has made two changes, leaving out Kainat Imtiaz and Diana Baig for left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal and Aiman Anwer. India has beaten their arch-rivals two times in 2022. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side will now eye a hattrick of wins against them.
