IND vs ZIM LIVE: Washington Sundar Injury: Washington Sundar is injured yet again and is doubtful for the Zimbabwe tour. But what’s more shocking is that BCCI is still in the dark about the all-rounder’s injury. Sundar injured his left shoulder during Royal London Cup with Lancashire. But 48 hours have passed since and BCCI is yet to make an official remark on the matter. As InsideSport understands, he is doubtful for the tour. Sundar who recently made a recovery from injury post IPL 2022 was named for the Zimbabwe ODIs. He was supposed to reach Harare directly from the UK on August 15. But 72 hours before he could reach, BCCI and the selectors are yet to understand if he is fit for the tour.

“Washington is being treated by Lancashire medical team. We will get an update soon on whether he is fit to travel. But as things stand, he is not part of the tour. There is very little turnaround for him to recover and we won’t risk aggravating the injury,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

It has not been smooth sailing for the 22-year-old bowling all-rounder. Washington Sundar has played just three matches for India post-IPL 2022. During IPL he missed quite a few matches after experiencing a webbing tear on his bowling hand. But he was struck by an injury again during India’s West Indies series at home. After recovering from his injury, he decided to regain his fitness and decided to join the county side of Lancashire.

He had a decent stint in English Country cricket and was selected to be a part of the Indian squad that will tack on Zimbabwe in a 3-match ODI series. It would have been a perfect opportunity for the young spinner to redeem himself in the slow-turning pitches of Zimbabwe. Moreover, India is scheduled to travel to the African nation with just 3 specialist spinners including Sundar. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav are the other two specialist spinners in the squad.

The young player was snubbed from the Asia Cup squad, the BCCI selectors have no plan for him for the ICC T20 World Cup too.

“He is a great asset for India team. But at the moment, he needs to work on his fitness and wait for his chance. We have spoken to him about T20 World Cup. Ashwin will be preferred in Australia. Washington will be backup in case of injury in T20s for now,” a member of the selection committee told InsideSport.

India’s squad for 3 ODIs: KL Rahul (Captain) Shikhar Dhawan (vice-captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Subhuman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohd Siraj, Deepak Chahar.
