It has not been smooth sailing for the 22-year-old bowling all-rounder. Washington Sundar hasn’t played for India post-IPL 2022. During IPL he missed quite a few matches after experiencing a webbing tear on his bowling hand. After recovering from his injury, he decided to regain his fitness and decided to join the county side of Lancashire.
He had a decent stint in English Country cricket and was selected to be a part of the Indian squad that will tack on Zimbabwe in a 3-match ODI series. It would have been a perfect opportunity for the young spinner to redeem himself in the slow-turning pitches of Zimbabwe. Moreover, India is scheduled to travel to the African nation with just 3 specialist spinners including Sundar. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav are the other two specialist spinners in the squad.

However, as things could turn worse, Sundar experienced an injury after falling heavily on his shoulder. The player received treatment on the ground and then left the pitch to not return again. The extent of his injury is yet to be revealed.
The young player was snubbed from the Asia Cup squad, the BCCI selectors have no plan for him for the ICC T20 World Cup too. “He is a great asset for India team. But at the moment, he needs to work on his fitness and wait for his chance. We have spoken to him about T20 World Cup. Ashwin will be preferred in Australia. Washington will be backup in case of injury in T20s for now,” a member of the selection committee told InsideSport.
