IND vs WI LIVE: India vs WestIndies T20 Series: KL Rahul has suffered another setback ahead of a potential return to action on West Indies tour. The Indian vice-captain was slated to appear for a fitness test on Sunday. But has tested positive and now, he has to spend  7 days in isolation. That also means, he will miss at least the first two T20s against West Indies. The good news is that wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav is set to return after receiving National Cricket Academy’s (NCA) green signal. Follow India vs West Indies LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

The India opener has resumed full-fledged practice in Bengaluru and is close to 100% match fitness. But now, it has take a backseat as he has to remain in isolation. Following Covid recovery, he has to pass a mandatory fitness test before leaving for Trinidad.

“He is close to match-fitness. But we don’t want to rush his return considering he had surgery. There will be a fitness test at NCA on July 24 and if he clears that, he will board the flight to Trinidad. Kuldeep is fine. He has checked out of NCA. He cleared the fitness test,” a BCCI official told InsideSport before the Covid test.

Kuldeep Yadav was sidelined with an arm injury in practice ahead of the South Africa series in June. But he has recovered since and is ready to rejoin the squad. But things are a little more complicated with KL Rahul. With what appeared to be a groin injury, he had to travel to Germany for sports hernia surgery.

It takes around 6-12 weeks to recover from the surgery. Having undergone the surgery only in June end, Rahul hasn’t had much time. But he has been recovering well and is close to match fitness if sources are to be believed. If he returns to the T20 fold, he will be the vice-captain of the series. Moreover, he will get some crucial match practice ahead of Asia Cup in late August.

KL Rahul injury Timeline:

  • July 2022: Sports Hernia: The recovery period also ruled him out of the three-match ODI series against West Indies.
