IND vs WI LIVE: Former chief selector K Srikkanth BAFFLED with India’s combination, questions ‘Why are you spoiling player like Suryakumar Yadav?’

“Suryakumar Yadav is a brilliant player at No 4. Why do you want him to open? Where is Ishan Kishan? Why are you playing Bhuvneshwar when he is already established player. Why are you not playing Harshal Patel instead when you are going for trial and error,” said K Srikkanth.

India has often tried out permutation and combination with the opening pair. Rahul Dravid and co have tried out Rishabh Pant previously with Rohit Sharma. And now the gamble with Suryakumar Yadav, which apparently didn’t work at all. Rohit Sharma departed on the first ball while Surya soon followed him back after scoring just 11 runs.

These changes in the top order of the Indian lineup have apparently left K Srikkanth bewildered. Srikkanth blasted out saying why is a player like Suryakumar Yadav being wasted? Surya is the perfect batter to fit the role at No. 4 and with him being dismissed early, India wasted a perfect opportunity to try him in the middle order ahead of the big tournaments in the forthcoming months.

Surya is a key player on the squad and with the player being underutilized, several questions have been raised about him being played out of position. With the Asia Cup and ICC T20 World Cup in the horizon, it is important that team India finds the perfect balance in their squad.

Today’s game was delayed with several of the Indian players failing to receive their kit bags. Surya was once such who failed to get his kit bag. he came to the crease to bat wearing Arshdeep Singh’s jersey.
