India’s pace bowling allrounder Venkatesh Iyer, who bowled a solitary over, also sustained a blow to his right hand after the ball slipped through his hand from a Pollard shot in the 17th over. The duo will have their scans done and it remains to be seen if they will be available for the remainder of the series.

Earlier, Nicholas Pooran starred with the bat his knock of 61 runs helped West Indies post 157/7 against India in the first T20I of the three-match series at the Eden Gardens on Wednesday.
Sent into bat, West Indies got off to a bad start as the visitors lost Brandon King (4) on the fifth ball of the innings. While Nicholas Pooran did steady the ship, Ravi Bishnoi starred on his debut bagging 2/17 to deal a blow.

In the final four overs, West Indies managed to add 49 more runs to the total, and in the end, the team from the Caribbean posted a score of more than the 150-run mark. Pooran was dismissed by Harshal Patel but it was not before the left-hander played a knock of 61. Kieron Pollard (24*) remained unbeaten for the visitors.
In the end, Rohit Sharma’s 19-ball 40, Suryakumar Yadav’s 18-ball 34 and Venkatesh Iyer’s 13-ball 24 helped India secure a 6-wicket victory and take 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
