It was Western Australia who reigned supreme against Team India by 36 runs in the 2nd practice game on October 13. Although KL Rahul scored 74, his sluggish efforts were not enough in absence of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav. At the toss before the second practice match on Thursday, skippers Ashton Turner and KL Rahul exchanged signed shirts. Players all over the world, often show their mutual respect for one another by exchanging jerseys.

Talking about the match, the hosts amassed 168/8 in 20 overs while batting first, but India could only muster 132/8 in reply. With the exception of KL Rahul, who gathered 74 runs in 55 balls, no other hitter was able to hold off the Western Australia onslaught. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant stepped out to start the inning, but Rishabh Pant was caught for nine.

Lance Morris packed Deepak Hooda on 6. Axar Patel could only manage 2, while Hardik Pandya finished his innings on 17. On the score of 10, Dinesh Karthik was dismissed. Even though he was in the team, Rohit Sharma didn’t come out to bat.

Earlier, Ashwin became the Indian team’s star bowler. Three wickets were taken by the spinner, all in the same over. While Arshdeep and Bhuvneshwar each claimed one wicket, Harshal Patel claimed two. Run-out made up one of the wickets. D’Arcy Short and Nick Hobson both slammed their respective half-centuries. Harshal dismissed Hobson for 64 and in the same over, Short ran out for 52.

After Perth, India will head to Brisbane where they will take against Australia and New Zealand in official T20 World Cup warm-up games on October 17 and October 19, respectively, at The Gabba. India, the 2007 T20 World Cup champions, is in Group 2 of the T20 World Cup’s Super 12 stage together with Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Africa, and two qualifiers.

The Men in Blue begin their campaign on October 23 at the MCG against their bitter rivals Pakistan. Thereafter, they play on October 27 at the SCG against the first qualifier team, on October 30 at Perth Stadium against South Africa, on November 2 at Adelaide Oval against Bangladesh, and on November 6 (against the second qualifier side at MCG).
