In what was effectively against BBL side Perth Scorchers’ bowling attack, India struggled with the bat. KL Rahul did end up with 74 runs but his sluggish approach did cost India the match. KL Rahul scored 74 off 55 balls. Pacers Jason Behrendorff and Matthew Kelly stuck to their line and lengths.

However, that was about it. Rishabh Pant (9 off 11) sent to open, failed again. Deepak Hooda was promoted up their order given his rich form in the limited opportunities he has got for the Indian team, which also includes a T20I century against Ireland. However, the batter failed to make a mark and was sent back to the dressing room by Lance Morris for a paltry 6(9).
Hardik Pandya walked in to bat at number four and immediately made an impact as the all-rounder smashed two massive sixes within a quick space. The batter, however, was not able to carry his innings forward and was sent packing by Hamish Mckenzie for 17(9).
Axar Patel (2) and Dinesh Karthik (10 off 14) also offered a flop show. While KL Rahul did put his feet on the accelerator after scoring his half-century, it did not last long. The scoreboard pressure did get the better of him. He fell to Andrew Tye for 74.

Earlier, Ravichandran Ashwin and Harshal Patel have helped India restrict Western Australia XI to 168/8. After a 110-run stand between D’Arcy Short (52 off 38) and Nick Hobson (64 off 41), it seemed WA would put up a big total. But Ashwin’s triple strike in 17th over turned the game on its head. Harshal Patel also made a fine comeback with 2/27 in his 4. Ashwin returned with 3/32. Arshdeep Singh picked up the other wicket as two resulted in run-outs.
Put to bat first by India, Western Australia was given an early blow after opener Josh Philippe was dismissed for 8 off 9 balls by Arshdeep Singh with assistance from the safe hands of Bhuvneshwar Kumar. WA was 15/1 at that point. D’Arcy Short and Nick Hobson stabilised the innings, leaving India searching for answers to their batting. The duo put up a partnership of 110 runs and brought up their respective half-centuries.
It was Harshal Patel’s pace which broke this partnership, sending back Hobson for 64 off 41 balls. Patel also sent back D’Arcy after running him out for 52 off 38 balls. India made a comeback into the match with these two quick scalps. WA was at 127/3 in 15 overs.

Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin unleashed his deadly spin, taking three wickets to strengthen India’s hold in the match. He sent back Cameron Bancroft (6), Ashton Turner (2) and Sam Fanning (0) within a single over to reduce WA to 6/137 in 16.4 overs.
Wickets kept falling as KL Rahul ran out Hamish Mckenzie for 3 off 4 balls. Harshal got his second wicket of the match, dismissing Andrew Tye for 6 off five balls.
WA finished the innings at 168/8 in their 20 overs, with Matthew Kelly (15*). Ravichandran Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers for India, bowling a brilliant spell of 3/32 in 4 overs. Harshal Patel took 2 wickets for 27 runs in his four overs. Arshdeep got one wicket and conceded 25 runs in his three overs.
