IND vs SL: Shubman Gill vs SriLanka – India’s young opener Shubman Gill once again displayed his fine batting prowess with his 2nd ODI Century against SriLanka in the 3rd and final ODI game of the series. With the series already in the bag, India took charge after a cautious start in Trivandrum. The initial jitters were broken, when Gill slammed four boundaries in a single over, to go on top of their opponents. After registering his 6th ODI fifty, he then converted it into a triple-digit score. Gill now has cemented his spot as the opener, while Double centurion Ishan Kishan lags behind. One of the major issues that rose in the Indian team was the selection of the second opener. Both Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan were strong contenders to fight for the spot. However, Gill got the nod ahead of the wicket-keeper batter in the series against SriLanka and passed his litmus Test with flying colors.
After initial hiccups in the first 2 T20s, he played a good knock in the third game and won the confidence of Rahul Dravid to feature him in the 3 ODI games. On the other hand, Ishan Kishan who slammed India’s fastest Double centuries in ODIs against Bangladesh currently falls behind in the race.

Prior to the first game in Guwahati, India skipper Rohit Sharma said, that the team would grant equal opportunities to both the batters, but given that Kishan had his chance, it was only fair to provide the same opportunity to Gill.
Having the backing of his skipper and head coach, Gill gave a strong reply to the opposition. He slammed a 70 in the first game and a decent 21-run knock in the other. However, with the series in the bag, Gill freed his arms and went on the offense in the third game. In just 52 deliveries he brought up his fifty.

Following his fifty, he went all guns blazing and is keen to grab a ton in the game. In just 89 deliveries he registered a fine century with a simple and minimalistic celebration. However, Gill’s flourishing form will be bad news for Ishan Kishan. The double centurion will now be second in line in the pecking order of the Indian team.
