Chasing a mammoth 229 to win, SriLanka got off to a flyer with Kusal Mendis resuming from where he left off in Pune. The visitors scored at around 9 runs an over comfortably against pace, forcing Hardik to bring on Axar Patel. The move worked like a charm as Mendis was the first to depart. Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando soon fell to the short ball ploy as SL were forced into submission at 51/3.

SriLanka never truly recovered as Yuzvendra Chahal spun his web around in the middle overs. The wily leg spinner struck twice, making him India’s joint leading wicket-taker in T20Is. The ever-increasing required run rate troubled the visitors as they started finding Indian fielders and giving away their wickets.

Dasun Shanaka once again showed glimpses of his power hitting but the Asian Champions eventually folded for just 137. Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers with a three-wicket haul, while Umran, Hardik and Chahal got two each.

Earlier, Hardik Pandya has won the toss and India will be batting first in the series decider. The Indian captain retained the same tea with Arshdeep Singh and Shubman Gill still in. SriLanka meanwhile made a solitary change, with Avishka Fernando coming in for Bhanuka Rajapaksa.

Ishan Kishan was dismissed in the very first over in yet another poor outing. Shubman Gill struggled initially, playing out 9 dots before opening his account. Rahul Tripathi meanwhile displayed his intent and gave India the perfect momentum to launch. Playing his second game, Tripathi scored 35 off just 16 balls, before a soft dismissal off Karunaratne.

What followed was the Suryakumar Yadav show. The Indian vice-captain displayed his unmatched superiority yet again in the shortest format with a scintillating hundred. Surya struck a sensational 112 not out off 51 balls for his third T20I century in just six months. After completing his fifty in 26 balls, Surya took only 19 deliveries to reach the 100-run mark. Only Rohit Sharma has more tons than SKY now in T20Is.

Gill managed 46 after a circumspect start, while the likes of Hooda and Hardik fell trying to keep up with Surya. He eventually found an able ally in Axar Patel, who blasted a 9-ball 21. India posted a mammoth 228/5, making the bowler’s job easy. The Men in Blue cantered to a 91-run win to take the series 2-1.
