The left-arm spinner bowled exceptionally well ending up with three wickets. The three-wicket haul also helped him complete 200 wickets across all three formats. The IND vs SL 3rd ODI will be a dead rubber but Kuldeep Yadav is set to bench Yuzvendra Chahal again in Thiruvananthapuram.

Axar Patel is likely to be retained for the 3rd ODI as well, but Chahal and Kuldeep will be battling each other for the second spinner’s slot. Kuldeep wasn’t India’s first-choice spinner for the Kolkata ODI match. Chahal complained of a shoulder niggle following the Guwahati ODI. The leg spinner failed to recover in time for the match.

Following the match-winning performance, Kuldeep Yadav said, “Since the last one year, I have been trying to back my strength and not think much. Whenever I get my chance, I just think about performing well. I am enjoying my bowling a lot. The team combination matters, so I just try to give my best whenever I get my chance,”.
Kuldeep Yadav credits Yuzvendra Chahal for Eden Garden Performance
The last time Chahal and Kuldeep featured together in a match was back in 2019. Following the completion of the match, Kuldeep during his interaction with Chahal on BCCI.tv credited the bowler for his effort. He said, “Yuzi has always supported me, obviously he knew how the batters play having played the earlier games so he keeps advising me. He is an amazing guy. Well, I will have a fun activity with Chahal now,”.
Despite the success in the last ODI, there’s no guarantee that Kuldeep will play the final ODI. This will not be the first time that he could be benched like that. In October last year, he had taken 4 for 18 in an ODI against South Africa but was left out of subsequent matches until the tour of Bangladesh last month.
The left-arm spinner produced a man-of-the-match performance in the first test at Chattogram. Despite taking eight wickets he was dropped for the second in Mirpur. Keeping in mind past experiences it will not be surprising if Kuldeep Yadav is benched again. However, if he does play at Thiruvananthapuram, Kuldeep will definitely put up yet another splendid performance to stay on selectors’ radar.
