During their first practice session at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, the likes of Quinton de Kock were seen resting in the shade more often than not. But Bavuma and Reeza Hendricks decided to toil hard in the heat.

In May-June, the mercury soars past 45 degrees Celsius mark in the national capital, making it almost impossible for anyone to step outside, let alone play cricket. But Bavuma isn’t having it.

South Africa will play a T20 match for the first time since the T20 World Cup 2021 and he wants to use every match as if it’s World Cup final.

“The conditions in India don’t accurately simulate conditions in Australia. In saying that, there’s still a lot of benefit from playing. Any type of competitive cricket will be good for us,” Temba Bavuma said.

“We’ll be using these games really to familiarise ourselves again with how we go about playing cricket. Getting that right language that we speak amongst ourselves, really getting guys understanding what their roles are within the team,” he added.

IND vs SA T20 Series: South Africa put in hard yards at Kotla

  • Only Quinton de Kock took it easy during the nets session. He was seen shadow-practising with his bat but did not hit the nets.
  • Temba Bavuma and Reeza Hendricks had full net sessions at Feroz Shah Kotla to be back in the T20 mode.
  • With spin expected to play a major role in the series, Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj put in hard yards.
  • Both of them did not find a suitor in IPL 2022.
  • Aiden Markram and Rassie van der Dussen were in IPL but still decided to go through the grinds.
  • Rassie did not have a great IPL in the matches that he featured for Rajasthan Royals.
  • Markram did have good starts for Sunrisers Hyderabad but he failed to capitalise on that.
  • Hence, both decided to have full nets sessions.

As for Team India, after a week-long break, they will arrive in Delhi on Sunday. The likes of Arshdeep Singh, Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel are already in Delhi as they attended Deepak Chahar’s wedding reception. Captain KL Rahul, head coach Rahul Dravid amongst others will arrive today.
