IND vs SA ODI – Washington Sundar tests positive: India have been dealt a major blow as all-rounder Washington Sundar has tested positive for COVID-19. Sundar was supposed to fly to South Africa along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shikhar Dhawan, Suryakumar Yadav, Ruturaj Gaekwad, Deepak Chahar, Venkatesh Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Yuzuvendra Chahal and Prasidh Krishna from Mumbai.
They had to undergo a three-day quarantine in India, followed by three-day quarantine in South Africa before joining the Indian team after the third Test match.
The Indian ODI team is scheduled to fly on Wednesday morning from Mumbai.

Washington Sundar has been out of action of international cricket for almost 10 months – he last played for India in March 2021 – because of injuries.
The all-rounder returned to action for Tamil Nadu in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he finished as one of the leading wicket-takers leading his team to the final.

The series was marked to be his comeback but it is likely to be slightly delayed with Sundar not travelling with the squad. A source told Cricbuzz, “He tested positive some days back and it has been decided that he will not travel with the squad.”
It remains to be seen whether BCCI will name a replacement with Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal as spinners in the squad. Among all-rounders, Sundar’s absence will mean that Venkatesh Iyer is the sole all-rounder in the side.
