Notably, India’s squad for the three-match ODI series vs South Africa is yet to be announced. But it has been widely reported that the players who are part of the T20 WC squad will not play in the 50-over series.

It is very likely that India’s T20 team will leave for Australia before the ODI series. For this reason, the BCCI will choose a different team for ODIs against South Africa.

VVS Laxman, Head Cricket, National Cricket Academy (NCA) will be the interim head coach for Team India (Senior Men) for the ODI series against SA. Laxman, who travelled with the Indian team that played the ODI series in Zimbabwe will oversee the team’s preparation in the absence of Rahul Dravid.

VVS is working with India A in the ongoing series against New Zealand A. One ODI match between both teams have concluded which India won conveniently. The other two One-day matches between the ‘A’ teams will be played on September 25 and 27.

South Africa will land in India this week and will play 3 T20Is and as many ODIs against the hosts. The 3 T20Is are scheduled to be played on September 28, October 2, and 4. The three ODIs will be played on October 6, 9, and 11.

Players who have impressed for IND-A

On Thursday at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, pace bowlers Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Sen knocked New Zealand out for a meager 167, sharing seven wickets between them, as India A posted an easy seven-wicket victory in the first of the three one-dayers to give the hosts a 1-0 series lead.

The New Zealanders appeared to be in danger of being bowled out for fewer than 100 runs at one point, but the good defensive play from Michael Rippon (61) and Joe Walker (36) allowed them to score 167 in 40.2 overs.

The side led by Sanju Samson overcame the Kiwis’ target in 31.5 overs, with the skipper (31 not out) and Rajat Patidar (45 not out) completing the task. Additionally, opener Ruturaj Gaikwad (41) and Rahul Tripathi made crucial contributions (31).

IND vs SA ODI: Possible India squad for SA ODIs

Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, Rahul Tripathi, Rajat Patidar, Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Umesh Yadav, Umran Malik, Prasidh Krishna, Mohd Siraj, Kuldeep Sen, Rahul Chahar, Tilak Varma.

Despite a below-par performance in 1st ODI, there are chances that Umran Malik will get the nod of the selectors. It’s almost certain that Shikhar Dhawan will return to captain the team. Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan should also feature in the squad against the Proteas. With Navdeep Saini injured, Umesh Yadav could feature for  Men in Blue.
