IND vs SA LIVE – Mohd Shami’s Journey: India pace spearhead Mohd Shami on Tuesday opened up about his special celebrations after 200 Test wickets with bowling coach Paras Mhambrey. “My father has made me what I am today. I come from a village where there aren’t many facilities and even today there aren’t all facilities available. Even then, my father would cycle me 30 km to take me at coaching camp and that struggle I still remember. In those days and those situations, they invested in me and I am forever grateful,” Shami told the press on Tuesday.

Shedding light on the 200-wicket milestone, the senior pacer added: “No one can ever dream as to what he can ultimately achieve when you are coming up the ranks and struggling to make a mark. Your dream is to become an India player and play with those whom you have seen on TV. ‘

“All you can do is work hard and if you work hard you are bound to get results.”

How was the feeling when you scalped the 200^th wicket and shed light on your special celebrations?

The gesture after the achievement was especially for [my] father who is now a past. It was all about giving credit to someone who backed me and recognising him for his deeds. I also want to thank God for my efforts that have paid dividends.

Last time 4 wickets and this time 5 wickets, Is this your favourite ground?

I had missed out on the previous instance (to complete a 5-wicket haul). This time both effort and possibility were there to complete the fifer and 200 wickets as I was bowling in the correcting line & length.

What are you feeling after entering the 200 wickets elite club?

I am feeling proud at the achievement to be able to represent the nation. It gives me immense happiness that can’t be expressed. I am hopeful of delivering in the upcoming fixtures. Test cricket is all about enjoying the game to be able to perform at peak.
