“Rahul will be available for the entire series. He insisted on being there with the team for the whole series and not leaving before the last match. The South Africa series is an important one. It will help him test a few combinations of players. He will join the squad in England before the warm-up,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

Most of the senior players including captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have been rested from South Africa series. There are also a few injury concerns in the squad with Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Deepak Chahar all recovering from injuries.
That is the reason, Rahul Dravid wants to be there with the team. His presence will also help KL Rahul who shares a great rapport with Dravid.
“The initial idea was to have Rahul available for England series and VVS take charge of the squad for the two T20 series. But Rahul refused,” the BCCI official added.

VVS Laxman for Ireland series
National Cricket Academy director VVS Laxman will take charge of the Indian team for the two-match T20 series against Ireland in June. Rahul Dravid will be unavailable for the Ireland series. Rohit Sharma-led Team India will play a First Class warm-up match against Leicestershire County Cricket Club before the 5th Test against England from July 1.
The two-match T20 series against Ireland which will be played on June 26 and 28 will coincide with the warm-up match from June 24. As two different teams will be busy simultaneously, the BCCI has decided to send VVS Laxman as the Team Director for the T20 team with Dravid taking charge of the team in England after finishing the South Africa series at home.
“Yes, VVS will be with the team in Ireland along with the NCA coaching staff. He will team up with Rahul for the 1st Test in Birmingham,” the BCCI official added.

As for the team for Ireland, BCCI will announce the squad after the completion of the South Africa series. The likes of Rahul Tewatia, Rahul Tripathi and Sanju Samson are likely to be called up for the Ireland series.
After leading Gujarat Titans to their maiden IPL title on debut, he is set to be appointed as the captain for two-match series in Ireland barring any late injuries.
