Chasing a target of 228 runs with just 5 specialist batters wasn’t going to be easy. And it wasn’t. Rohit Sharma departed for a two-ball duck in the first over. Shreyas Iyer failed in his audition and departed in the second over off Wayne Parnell.

IND SA Indore T20 Highlights: But it was a showdown between Shreyas Iyer and Dinesh Karthik with both being promoted up the order. While the past matches have shown that Dinesh Karthik will get the go ahead, Pant had a point to prove. He started off in that fashion, taking on Lungi Ngidi for 20 runs including three consecutive sixes in the 5th over.
However, as has been the case with him, he threw away his wicket. Ngidi bowled a shortish ball on the off-side and Pant gave away an easy catch to Tristan Stubbs. Before he departed, Pant added 41 runs off just 20 balls with Karthik.
Once Pant departed, Dinesh Karthik went on with the business as he does in the death overs. He took on South African bowling attack, hammering 4 fours and as many sixes. While the match was inconsequential, he won’t be happy with the way he was dismissed. He tried to go for a reverse sweep-scoop off Keshav Maharaj but missed the line completely and it cleaned up his stumps.

But with Suryakumar Yadav still on crease, India had their hopes alive. SKY started well. However, he too departed with Dwayne Pretorius taking his wicket. With his wicket, India’s batting line-up was over. It was just a formality as India were 86/5 with still 141 runs needed.
But wickets kept on falling until Deepak Chahar and Umesh Yadav took charge. Chahar scored a brilliant 17-ball 31, adding 48 runs with Umesh Yadav for the 8th wicket. But that was about it. India were bowled out for 178 and ended up losing the match by 49 runs.

Earlier, sent to bat, South Africa were once again off to a poor start with Temba Bavuma extending his poor run of form. But after Umesh Yadav dismissed Bavuma, Quinton De Kock and Rilee Rossouw took full advantage of the Indore pitch.
Quinton De Kock shrugged off his poor returns of 56-ball half-century in Guwahati. With 6 fours and 4 sixes, De Kock was at his best. He smashed 43-ball 68, adding 89 runs off just 47 balls with Rilee Rossouw.
Rossouw also had a point to prove after being dismissed for two consecutive ducks. And he did so in style. He ripped apart Indian bowling attack, hammering 7 fours and 8 sixes to score an unbeaten 48-ball 100.
However, all eyes were on India’s bowling in the last five overs. While Harshal Patel started off well with a 9-run over, it soon fell apart. Deepak Chahar went for 15 in the 16th over. Siraj brought the scoring rate down, conceding just 8 in the 17th over. But Harshal went for 15 Siraj went for 11 and Deepak Chahar applied the finishing touches with 24-run last over. David Miller hammered three consecutive sixes off Deepak Chahar to finish things off in style, posting 227/3.
Indian bowlers in last 5 overs:
- Harshal Patel: 24 in 2
- Deepak Chahar: 39 in 2
- Mohd Siraj: 11 in 1
