IND vs PAK Live – India Practice at MCG, Sunil Gavaskar UPSET: Legendary India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is furious. Gavakar is upset on team’s decision to give choice to players for an optional practice session. The Rohit Sharma-led side had an optional training session in MCG on Friday (October 21). Majority of the players gave a miss. Captain Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya were the prominent ones to sweat out in the training session, while most of them missed out. Gavaskar slammed team India’s approach of not taking practice seriously and said, “I don’t agree”. Follow India vs Pakistan in ICC T20 World CUP 2022 LIVE Updates with InsideSport.IN

“I don’t know what it tells you, but it’s something that I don’t agree with. I don’t agree with it for the simple reason that, at the start of the tournament, when you had your match (warm-up match) washed out, when you have come to Melbourne and had a day off, and then the next day, you opt not to practice?” Gavaskar said to India Today.

IND vs PAK Live: Why does Sunil Gavaskar slams team India over optional practice sessions?

  • The cricketer-turned-expert believes since India’s last warm-up match against New Zealand was washed out due to rain, all players should have used this practice session to prepare for Pakistan.
  • Gavaskar opines leaving the option to players is not ideal. Only the captain and coach should take a call on an optional practice session.
  • The former India captain says rhythm and momentum are crucial during the T20 World Cup.
  • Gavaskar says that giving an option to the players before the start of the tournament is a big no-no
  • For the unreserved, Pakistani players were in total attendance during the team’s first practice on Friday.

“Giving an option is something I believe only the captain and the coach should be doing. Say, if you scored a hundred in the previous game and you have a small niggle, the captain and the coach can give you the option of not practicing and say ‘if you don’t want to come to practice, it’s fine’. Similarly with a bowler, who has bowled maybe 20-30 overs and feeling a sore shoulder or something, then the captain and the coach can give that bowler the option of not coming for training.
