IND vs NZ Series: Why Gavaskar feels it is a big opportunity for Hardik & Others to show if future of Indian cricket has arrived?

  • Pandya impressed one and all with his leadership credentials in the IPL 20222 season by leading Gujarat Titans to its maiden victory.
  • The all-rounder thrived on the opportunity and took onus with bat and ball. He picked up 15 wickets and scored over 400 runs.
  • With few senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, & Shami being rested, Pandya has a golden opportunity to show his leadership credentials.
  • It is also a good chance for a few youngsters like Sanju Samson, Shubman Gill, Umran Malik, and Ishan Kishan to shine against New Zealand.
  • Pandya has led the Indian T20 team against Ireland, and in one T20 match against England.
  • The all-rounder has a clean record so far, and has been able to gel with the junior players.
  • Against a quality New Zealand side, Pandya’s captaincy credentials will be tested. If he & youngsters come out with flying colors, then the future of Indian cricket has truly arrived.

“Pandya in the last 18 months has grown from a boy into a man in cricketing terms and the maturity and felicity with which he has taken his cricket to another level has been fascinating to watch. Here is a man who has bounced back after a serious back surgery that could well have ended his career. He has also taken to the captaincy like a duck takes to water and bids fair to keep the captain’s band on his arm for a long time to come. It will be interesting to see how the youngsters flower under him.”

Indian Cricket Team: Big change coming up in Indian Cricket in January

As per a report on InsideSport, there is a big change coming up in Indian Cricket in January. BCCI is mulling over two separate captains for white-ball cricket. The board is set to implement this from Sri Lanka T20 Series.

“It’s early to confirm this but yes we are mulling if appointing separate captains for ODI & T20 Squads is the right way. This will help in taking away the load from one person.

“We need a fresh approach for T20s and at the same time consistency in wake of ODI World CUP in India in 2023. The plan can come into play starting in January. We will meet and take final calls.”, informed a top BCCI official to InsideSport.
