India’s Test specialists – Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara’s dismal run of form continues to be a headache for the team management. The duo failed to perform up to the expectations in the Kanpur Test and will once again be in the spotlight in the Mumbai Test. While Pujara managed 48 runs in 2 innings, Rahane contributed with 39 runs in 2 innings.
Cheteshwar Pujara last scored a century against Australia in Sydney while Rahane’s lean patch stretches back to his fine century in the boxing day Test at Melbourne in December 2020.

India training indoor at BKC complex: Rain has played spoilsport in the practice sessions for both – India and New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium. Both teams had to call off their today’s practice session due to wet ground. While New Zealand is expected to train in the afternoon, team India is training indoor at the BKC complex.
Earlier, the 1st practice session yesterday was called off due to rain.
Yesterday’s rain and more overnight showers have left the Wankhede Stadium too wet for training today. The team will go to the ground this afternoon for a look around and to set up. #INDvNZ pic.twitter.com/gW1Lfjbrja

The regular skipper Virat Kohli’s return comes as a big boost for the home side. Kohli was rested for the 3-match T20I series earlier and also missed the Kanpur Test. However, along with it, also comes a headache of selecting the playing XI for tomorrow’s game.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Kohli said that the decision on the playing XI will be taken on matchday considering the surface due to overcast and overnight showers.
