While Siraj made life difficult for the Kiwi batters, his mother Shabana Begum was locked in prayer. As the crowd chanted Siraj’s name vigorously, Shabana held onto her seat wishing the best for her son. Her prayers were answered, with ‘Miya bhai’ being the best bowler by some distance in Hyderabad.
Speaking to Indian Express, Shabana revealed that Siraj had paid the family a surprise visit on Monday. She says, “He had told us he would be visiting us only on Tuesday; we hadn’t cooked anything special. So, I first scolded him!”.
Siraj however sought only one thing, his mother’s blessings. He said, “Just give me your blessings, that’s enough.”

Alongside Siraj’s mother were Sofia Sultana (Siraj’s young sister), grandmother, aunt and maternal uncle. A dozen of friends were also present in the stands as they cheered the India pacer on. The fast bowler himself took care of the arrangements, Begum revealed.
“He wanted all of us to be here in the stadium and made all the arrangements. Had his father been around, he would have felt very proud because more than anything, as a mother I feel that despite all the fame and success, he hasn’t changed as a person and is looking after all of them,” says Begum.
While he has achieved international stardom, Siraj still remains the same. The 28-year-old has gifted his family and friends iPhones, with a close friend also being presented with a smartwatch.
Siraj has turned out to be India’s go-to new ball bowler. He has climbed to No.3 in the ODI bowlers rankings continuing his rich vein of form. On Wednesday, he played a key role in securing a win for his side when Michael Bracewell threatened to take the Kiwis home. He will now travel with the Indian contingent to Raipur for the 2nd ODI on Saturday.
