IND vs NZ Day 2 Stumps: Ajaz Patel creates history but India strong after 332-run 2nd Innings lead on Day 2

New Zealand 1st Innings: 62/10

Earlier, despite restricting India to 325 after Mayank Agarwal’s 150, New Zealand struggled as M Siraj and R Ashwin made Kiwi batters dance on their tunes and were eventually bowled out at 62 runs – their lowest ever total against India in Test. While Siraj rattled the Kiwi top order by picking 3 wickets, R Ashwin did the rest of the damage as he returned for 4 wickets. Axar Patel and Jayant Yadav were also amongst wickets with 2 and 1 scalp respectively.

India 2nd Innings: 69/0 | lead by 332 runs

India decided not to opt for follow-on, considering the tricky batting in the 4th innings, and went to extend their healthy lead. Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara opened the innings for India as Shubhman Gill suffered a blow to his right elbow while fielding earlier. Both Pujara and Agarwal played attacking cricket and returned unbeaten at stumps.

New Zealand, on the other hand, would look to bounce back quickly after India dominated the opening Day. Ajaz Patel was the only wicket-taker who ended Day 1 with 4/73.

“Tomorrow’s game plan is very simple. Try and restrict them as much as possible. Bowl a lot of good balls. Force them to hit good balls as opposed to allowing them to hurt us with the bad ones. We just need to make sure we are consistent and in good areas for long periods of time,” Patel said at the press conference.

“The job is only half done. So we have got to make sure we turn up tomorrow and really work hard for the last six wickets,” he added.
