Any captain who wins the toss will go on autopilot mode to opt for bowling first. This is because of heavy dew which will make it easier to chase during the second innings. The team batting first needs to score at least 20-25 extra runs to rule out the dew factor up to some extent. Notably, the sun sets early during winters in the easternmost part of the country.

IND vs NZ: Men in Blue eye series victoryRohit Sharma had earlier won the toss in Jaipur and ended up winning the match. The dew made it easier to chase during the second part of the contest. India pacers had earlier made some hard yards to stop the Blackcaps to an average total towards the back end of the innings. Now, Rohit once again needs to call the coin toss right if he has to win the upcoming fixture and guide India to their first series win under the Rahul Dravid era.

Seasoned chief curator Shyam Bahadur Singh said “heavy dew is expected from 7.30pm onwards”, which could mean toss would play a significant role.

“Heavy dew is expected from around 7.30pm onwards. We will take all possible measures to negate the impact,” Singh told PTI.

As for the wicket, it would be a typical batting-friendly surface with the bowlers having little advantage.

“It would be a sporting wicket. T20 is a game of entertainment, not a classic version. People will come to watch some power hitting and not to see a Ranji or a Test…”

The pitch was last used during the Jharkhand state T20 tournament in July, he said.

As far as international cricket is concerned, the stadium last hosted a Test match against South Africa in October 2019, while a T20 International returns to the city after 2017.

India have a 100 per cent win record in Ranchi as they have won both T20Is played at the venue. The Men in Blue had defeated Australia by nine wickets in their previous match played at the venue in October 2017. Rohit Sharma & Co would look to complete India’s hat-trick of victories in Ranchi.
