IND vs NZ LIVE: Controversial DRS decision cuts short Virat Kohli’s comeback, captain departs on duck – Watch video

Captain Virat Kohli’s stint was cut short on his comeback to the side after a controversial umpiring decision cost him his wicket on Friday. Kohli was just four balls into his innings when an Ajaz Patel delivery struck in front of the stumps. The umpire ruled it out and the Indian captain reviewed it instantly, convinced that the ball had hit his bat first and then the pad. While the replays suggested the same, the umpire still ruled it out due to lack on conclusive evidence, much to the surprise of Virat Kohli, who had to walk back to the pavilion without scoring a single run.

Virat Kohli’s wicket came at a crucial juncture for New Zealand, who had also dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara for a duck. With India playing a batsman short in Ravindra Jadeja’s absence, the onus was on Kohli to steer his team to a huge total, but his failure to do so has piled pressure on the current pair of Mayank Agarwal and Shreyas Iyer to resurrect the Indian innings.
