While the entire nation was obsessed with Virat Kohli not scoring a century for 1000 days, Rohit Sharma flew under the radar. Not anymore, as Kohli has found his mojo and has struck four centuries in 23 innings, and the India skipper has not scored a century in 17 ODIs. Rohit Sharma’s last ODI hundred came in January 2020 against Australia.

Since then, the India opener has got starts but failed to convert into a big one. In the second ODI against New Zealand, Rohit Sharma would be keen to end the century drought.

Since that 119 in Bengaluru, against Australia, India skipper has scores of 28, 25, 37, 60, 5, 13, 76, 0, 17, 27, 51, 83, 17, 42, & 34 in the last 15 innings. The opening batter has scored only three fifties in this period and has got out on most occasions after getting off to a good start.

Now, the captain of the side, Rohit has changed his approach in the powerplay. Earlier, Rohit along with the top 3 would take the innings deep but now has switched to an aggressive philosophy.

Rohit’s strike rate has gone up in 2022, as he scored 249 at a strike rate of 114.22. So far 2023, the strike rate reads 100.57, which is more than his career strike rate of 89. Is the India skipper playing aggressively has brought his downfall is not known, but Rohit is struggling to play long innings.

While it is 18 ODIs for Rohit Sharma without scoring a hundred overall, the right-hand batter has gone 51 matches without scoring a century. The drought was even more concerning given Rohit hit 18 tons in ODIs from 2017 to 2019. That stretch included 5 in the 2019 World Cup. Now, the Indian captain has put all those doubts to rest with a stunning show in Indore.
