The right-handed batter played a blinder after reaching his half-century off 32 deliveries. He played the role of a sheet anchor in the innings as he remained unbeaten on 111 runs off 51 deliveries. His batting brilliance which contained a plethora of unorthodox shots was laced with 11 boundaries and seven hits over the fence as he batted at a strike rate of 217.65. The innings was crucial to help India reach a daunting total of 191/6 runs even after New Zealand veteran Tim Southee pulled back with a hat-trick in the final over.
