Following a decent run in IPL 2022 for the Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson was eagerly waiting for his chance in the India team in the 5-match T20I series against South Africa at home. But Samson had to wait for his chance. However, the biggest shock came, when Samson wasn’t chosen against a relatively weaker opponent like Ireland.

Hardik Pandya who is the skipper of the Indian squad in the Ireland series has decided to go for a stable, consistent, and dependable lineup in the form of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Hooda. Ruturaj Gaikwad who had a decent stint against the Proteas chance was retained in the team. He managed to score 96 runs in 5 matches against South Africa.
Sanju Samson is a batter who performs well lower down the order. With Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik already in the team and occupying the finisher role in the squad, India needs more fire-power up the order, and therefore Hooda and Gaikwad were preferred in place of Samson.

With Samson being left out of the team, the cricketing fans of the country voiced their displeasure on social media. Fans claimed that politics and nepotism in BCCI are restricting Samson’s game time on the Team.

Deepak Hooda on the other hand had a good stint in IPL 2022 for Lucknow Super Giants. He managed to score 451 runs in 14 innings with an average of 32.21 which included 4 fifties. Sanju Samson scored 458 runs in 17 innings with an average of 28.62.

- Hardik Pandya decided to keep Sanju Samson on the beach while Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Hooda got their chance as the top-order batters of the team.
- The consistent and dependable nature of both the batters helped them find their place in the team.
- Sanju Samson had a decent IPL 2022 stint but is more slotted to play lower down the order. With Hardik and Karthik already present in the lower order, India needed more power up the order.
- Deepak Hooda had a better IPL 2022 season for LSG when compared to Samson. Hooda scored 451 in 14 innings in comparison to Samson’s 458 in 17 innings.
