Rohit Sharma and Team India will resume training a day before their game against minnows Hong Kong on Wednesday. The Men in Blue had a day off following their success over Pakistan but will hit the ground running once again at the ICC Academy in Dubai. India will have a couple of issues to air out during the training while a press conference is also scheduled for later in the day.

During practice, Indian vice-captain KL Rahul will be in focus having scored a first-ball duck in the Asia Cup 2022 opener against Pakistan. The likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav were also sluggish in their scoring rate, an antithesis to India’s aggressive approach in recent times.

Kohli looked in decent enough form and was one of the top scorers and the former Indian captain will look to build on his performance. Hong Kong presents a great opportunity for him and KL Rahul to get some much-needed confidence and runs under their belt.

Eyes will also be on Rishabh Pant after the left-hander was dropped in the first game. Despite being one of the impact players in the side, Dinesh Karthik was preferred ahead of the 25-year-old, in a potential hint into India’s T20 World Cup plans. With the squad announcement set for September 15, each opportunity counts and both Pant and DK will be aiming to convert as many as they can.

The Indian pacers had a fine day out in Dubai last time out, picking up all 10 wickets against Pakistan. The spinners struggled but will keep their place in the team, even with the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel lurking on the corner.

Rahul Dravid will supervise the session having taken full control of the squad and the backroom staff after returning from a COVID-19 related absence. VVS Laxman filled in during his absence but has now left and returned to India.
