IND vs ENG T20 LIVE: Rohit Sharma to lead India 1st time overseas

Rohit Sharma returns – Having missed out on the IND vs ENG 5th Test, Rohit Sharma returns to lead India in the 1st T20I. Rohit’s availability is subject to tests on Wednesday. The 35-year-old has already resumed training and looks good to go.

Rohit’s return would see Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad lose out on their place in the team. Gaikwad featured in the series against South Africa, while Samson made a comeback against Ireland in the former’s absence. Ishan Kishan featured in both those tours, will open in KL Rahul’s absence.

Deepak Hooda has made his case for No.3 with a stellar show in the T20 series against Ireland. He followed it up with a half-century in the warm-up game against Derbyshire. Suryakumnar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik and Axar Patel will make the rest of the batting.

IND vs ENG 1st T20: Harshal Patel displayed his credentials as an all-rounder smashing a fine half-century on Sunday against Northamptonshire. A death-overs specialist, Patel will pair up with veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the attack.

Yuzvendra Chahal is also likely to retain his place on the team. The Royals star was impressive against Ireland and followed it up with a good spell against the Northants. India however does have a selection conundrum when it comes to the third pacer, with Umran Malik, Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh vying for a place in the team.

Umran Malik made his debut against Ireland but had a mixed outing. He however was impressive against Derbyshire, bowling a spell of 2/29. Arshdeep Singh also impressed in the two warm-up games and will be hoping to make his international.

However, it is likely that Rohit Sharma opts for the more senior Avesh Khan on the side. The LSG pacer picked up a four-wicket haul against South Africa at home and has done sparingly well in Ireland and warm-up games. His ability to bowl at all stages of the game give him a huge advantage over his peers.
