IND vs ENG LIVE – T20 WC Semifinal Live – AB De Villiers on SKY: Suryakumar Yadav has got the seal of Mr 360 approval by the man himself. While Suryakumar is tired of being compared to AB de Villiers, dismissing the idea, saying it’s premature, ABD himself believes it’s quite fair. Surya has set the World Cup on fire with 225 runs from five games, including three fifties at a staggering strike rate of 193.97. He has left the experts and fans in awe with his incredible range of strokes. The 32-year-old, who is a late entrant to international cricket, has made batting look ridiculously look easy even in the toughest of conditions. One that stood out was against South Africa in Perth.
“I am very happy for Surya. I think he has come a very long way. I never saw this happening, the way he is playing. He was very conservative and stuck to his game plans at the start. But he is now laying the platform and foundation and then starting to dominate the bowlers. It is fantastic to see that and he has a bright future ahead of him,” AB de Villiers said at a function on Tuesday.

De Villiers left the cricketing word in awe while playing some outrageous strokes all around the park. But has he been bowled over by Surya’s play? The former Proteas captain, who was one of the most versatile batters in the game, said yes.
“It is beautiful to watch when they are really free and having fun out there. Great to watch Surya play the way he is playing now. The only thing he will have to concentrate on is his consistency. He will have to do this for 5 to 10 years and then he will find himself in the golden books of cricket players. Any player that gets into form… I think of quite a few guys that really start playing at the peak of their powers, that makes me very exciting,” De Villiers said.
What makes Suryakumar Yadav special?
The prolific Indian batter remains unperturbed by new challenges. Be it new conditions, new bowlers, or under pressure, SKY has emerged as one of the most reliable players. But it’s not just natural talent. He has put in hard yards to back his claim and confidence.

Before leaving for Australia, Suryakumar had special batting sessions at the Wankhede. Why Wankhede? The Mumbai stadium has one of the highest bounces in India. It helped him practice match-situations. As it was his maiden tour to Australia, that was the best plan he had. With longer boundaries in play in Australia, SKY looked at picking gaps and practised those in Mumbai during the break.
“If you look at the boundary here, it is 80-84 meters, here the square boundary is also 75-80 meters big. I think just the rear boundary is small which is 60-65 metres. So I look at hitting in that direction and I have been successful in that,” SKY said in an interview with R Ashwin.
