IND vs ENG LIVE Score 5th TEST: India and Jasprit Bumrah’s BIG…

India Playing XI Edgbaston Test

  • Will India go ahead with two spinners?
  • Who will open for India in place of Rohit?

Ashwin Set to get go ahead: According to information coming in from team India camp, Ravichandran Ashwin looks set to play the rescheduled final game of the series. He wasn’t considered for any of the four Tests in England last year under the previous team management led by Ravi Shastri

The conditions have prompted current head coach Rahul Dravid and stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah to consider the wily off-spinner in the playing XI this time.

Sources told InsideSport that Ashwin will be partnering Ravindra Jadeja as the Indians are likely to go in with two spinners and three pacers.

The spin duo, with 684 wickets between them, have played just four Tests together outside the subcontinent.

“Ash was… a bit of a concern because he had Covid but he came to the practice game and we got some bowling out of him. He pulled through really well in the nets… He’s fit,” Dravid said on Wednesday.

Who will open for India in place of Rohit? The bigger riddle is who would be Shubman Gill’s opening partner?

The indications from the team management is that Cheteshwar Pujara is likely to OPEN for India in the match.

Dropped from the side because of poor form after the South Africa tour, Pujara has forced himself in with tonnes of runs during his stint with Sussex in the County Championship.

“It’s not very different batting at No.3 or opening, it’s not a huge difference,” Dravid indicated of Opening role for Pujara.

India Playing XI (probable): 1 Shubman Gill, 2 Cheteshwar Pujara/Mayank Agarwal, 3 Hanuma Vihari, 4 Virat Kohli, 5 Shreyas Iyer, 6 Rishabh Pant (wk), 7 Ravindra Jadeja, 8 Shardul Thakur/ R Ashwin, 9 Mohammed Shami, 10 Mohammed Siraj, 11 Jasprit Bumrah (capt.)

India England Edgbaston Test – Jasprit Bumrah India Captain: For Bumrah, this will be his maiden stint as captain at any level of cricket.

He becomes the first fast bowler to lead India since Kapil Dev. Kapil’s last game as India captain was an ODI against England in Mumbai in November 1987.

“Mr Rohit Sharma, Captain, Indian Cricket Team is ruled out of the rescheduled fifth Test against England to be played from Friday. Rohit underwent a RAT Test on Thursday morning and returned a positive result for COVID-19.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Mr Jasprit Bumrah as captain for the upcoming Test and Mr Rishabh Pant as his deputy”, confirmed the BCCI release.

On Wednesday, India head coach Rahul Dravid contradicting InsideSport report had claimed ‘Rohit is still not officially out’. It is worth noting that InsideSport had reported on Wednesday morning that Rohit Sharma is OUT of 5th TEST and Bumrah will lead India.

InsideSport now has learnt that Rohit was once again tested positive on Thursday morning.

Rohit Sharma to MISS 5th Test: Team India captain had 1st tested positive for COVID-19 last week. He missed the final day of the warm-up fixture against Leicestershire.

Who will open for India? Rohit’s absence will hurt India in more ways than one.

Other than his leadership, India have also lost their best batter from the first four Tests. Rohit scored 368 runs and was only behind Joe Root’s 564 in the overall series HIGHEST SCORERS list.

Mayank Agarwal is in Birmingham as cover for Rohit Sharma. But it is unlikely that team management will draft UNDERCOOKED Mayank in XI.

Their is a good chance that either wicket-keeper batsman KS Bharath or Cheteshwar Pujara will be given responsibility to open for India with Shubman Gill at the other end.

India’s Test squad: Jasprit Bumrah (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant (vice-captain) (wk), KS Bharat (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Mohd Shami, Mohd Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Mayank Agarwal
