ECB send out an official statement on their Twitter account.
What is the result of SERIES? BCCI confirms series unfinished
The BCCI confirmed that the series in fact remained unfinished and will be played some time next year.
BCCI Statement:
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) along with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have jointly decided to call off the 5th Test Match scheduled at Manchester in ongoing India’s tour of England 2021.
The BCCI and ECB held several rounds of discussion to find a way to play the Test Match, however, the outbreak of Covid-19 in the Indian team contingent forced the decision of calling off the Old Trafford Test Match.
In lieu of the strong relationship between BCCI and ECB, the BCCI has offered to ECB a rescheduling of the cancelled Test match. Both the Boards will work towards finding a window to reschedule this Test match.
The BCCI has always maintained that the safety and well-being of the players is of paramount importance and there will be no comprise on that aspect.
The BCCI would like to thank the ECB for their co-operation and understanding in these trying times. We would like to apologise to the fans for not being able to complete an enthralling series.
IND vs ENG LIVE:
The ECB statement initially said that India, who led the series 2-1, had forfeited the final Test and the series was drawn 2-2. The statement has since been amended to say: “India are regrettably unable to field a team.” India is currently leading the series by 2-1
The final result stays unclear.
BCCI has proposed ECB to hold the last match of the series in 2022. India, for the record, are scheduled to visit England in July 2022 for three one-day Internationals and three T20 Internationals.
If all goes well the Test could most likely be scheduled around that time.
The fifth test between England and India at Old Trafford has been called off due to potential Covid-19 cases in the tourists’ camp — the ECB is expected to confirm the decision shortly.

IND vs ENG LIVE: Match cancelled as Rohit Sharma, Pujara and others traveling with families were reluctant to play
InsideSport.co is learning from its sources in the BCCI and also in the Indian team camp in England that some of the Indian players traveling with the families were ‘very reluctant’ to step out of their rooms to play the match.
Especially the players who came in close contact with team physio Yogesh Parmar are very concerned & wary of stepping out.
Most have travelled with families, especially children, and have made it extremely clear that they were not ready to take unnecessary risks.
This led to the cancellation of the fifth and final Test between England and India.

IND vs ENG LIVE: 5th test to go ahead after all Indians test negative, but ECB-BCCI relationship on edge
Why the relationship between two boards are strained? ECB is upset on two accounts with BCCI.
The 1st being, that on Thursday during the crisis conversation BCCI suggested cancellation of test to protect the IPL 2021 Phase 2. ECB got upset with BCCI officials on this that they are priortizing IPL over bilateral commitmment.
ECB was of the view, that if the test gets cancelled they will lose almost £30million (304 Crore) in broadcasting revenue and gate receipts from the full-houses expected at Old Trafford’s 21,500 capacity ground.
According to the information available – ECB told BCCI that they would be liable for these loses.
BCCI on the other hand got upset over ECB, once they asked them to forefit the match in case they are not ready to play. That would have left the series all square at 2-2 without players even setting foot on the Old Trafford outfield.
2nd Reason: ECB is very upset with BCCI and Indian team’s decision last week to flout Covid guidelines by attending a book launch in London just two days before the Oval test. According to ECB, the Covid-19 positive results in the Indian camp are largely due to this particular episoded.
Relations between the boards are strained now & on tenterhooks.
IND vs ENG LIVE: What is another area of huge concern for the 5th test & otherwise?
The biggest area of concern is who all from the Indian team came in contact with Indian physio Yogesh Parmar.
Parmar’s positive result came after a round of testing on Wednesday evening and the big worry for India was that he had stepped up from assistant to be the team’s main physio after lead physio Nitin Patel was deemed a close contact of Shastri.
Who all were treated by Pramar during the period?
Parmar had treated a number of players including Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma both during the Oval Test and at Manchester.
Indian Players have been moved to a separate floor in the Manchester’s Radisson Hotel and into a bio-bubble. They will stay in the bubble until the Test is over and then reach the UAE for IPL 2021 via a Chartered Flight.
