Ind vs Eng 4th Test: India’s ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin recorded his best-ever Test series with 32 wickets after bagging five wickets in the 4th Test against England in Ahmedabad. With that, he also equalled Harbhajan Singh and Kapil Dev’s record of 32 wickets in a Test series.

After scalping 24 wickets in the first three matches in ongoing India vs England Test series, Ashwin returned with three wickets in the first innings and followed it up with a 5/47 in the second. Thanks to his performance, India beat England by an innings and 25 runs to win the series 3-1.

Ashwin’s previous best was against South Africa in 2015 when he took 31 wickets in four matches with 12/98 being his best bowling figure in a match. India won the series 3-0.

Before Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh and Kapil Dev bagged 32 wickets in a Test series. However, Harbhajan achieved the feat in only three Tests against Australia in the historic series in 2001. Kapil Dev’s feat came in 1979-80 when Pakistan toured India for a six-match test series.

BS Chandrasekhar has been India’s most successful bowler in a Test series with 35 wickets in five matches against West Indies in the 1972-73 series. His feat included an 8/79.

Ashwin surpasses Courtley Ambrose

R Ashwin bagged who took 3 wickets in the first innings and followed it up with eight more to surpass West Indian great Courtley Ambrose’s record (405) with 409 Test wickets.

Ashwin equals Kapil Dev’s record

With five wickets in the second innings, the 34-year-old broke legendary Kapil Dev and Bishan Singh Bedi’s records of most wickets against England. With 85 wickets, he is now India’s third-leading wicket-taker against England behind BS Chandrasekhar and Anil Kumble

First Indian bowler to take 30 wickets in Test series twice

Ashwin also became the first Indian bowler to bag 30 wickets in Test series twice. His first came against South Africa in 2015 when the spinner returned with 31 wickets from the 4-match series.
