IND vs ENG 2nd Test: No place for Ashwin, Virat Kohli keeps faith in Ishant Sharma: Indian skipper Virat Kohli announced the incoming of Ishant Sharma in India’s playing XI in the second Test against England at Lord’s. India continue with their 4 pacers plus 1 spinner template and roped in Ishant Shamra in place of injured Shardul Thakur. The ace off-spinner- Ravichandran Ashwin continues to warm the benches even in the second Test against the Three Lions at the ‘mecca of cricket.’

With the start of the match being interrupted with rain, the overcast conditions and an equal amount of coverage of grass on the Lord’s turf are likely to assist the pace battery. Thus, the visitors have chosen veteran Ishant Sharma in Shardul Thakur’s absence.

The right-arm pacer bowler has quite some experience playing in England. He has made 21 outings with the ball and returned with 46 wickets besides maintaining an economy of 3.24. With the overcast conditions and the pitch have a green cover, he can be a boon to the Indian side.

Ishan Sharma’s unique record at Lord’s

No doubt, the 32-year old will come with some extra confidence especially while playing at Lord’s as he holds a remarkable feat at this venue. Sharma holds the record of most wickets in an innings by an Indian- 7 wickets.

Moreso, Sharma has also claimed a total of 12 wickets on Lord’s turf. His bowling in the two innings might just earn him the record of the most wickets in a cricket career at Lord’s by an Indian. Sharma is just 5 wickets short of achieving this record which is currently with Bishan Singh Bedi (1967-1979), Kapil Dev (1979-1990), both of whom have claimed 17 wickets each.
