India opening batsman Rohit Sharma impressed with the bat by sharing 97 runs partnership for India. He scored 36 runs off 107 balls and ensured India keep the ball out of play for the remaining batsmen. But he departed in the last over ahead of the Lunch session on Day 2 after getting well settled on the crease. This is not the first instance that Rohit Sharma has failed to play a long inning in England. Check out the stats:

IND vs ENG 1st Test: Rohit Sharma’s troubling 30s continue, once again fails to capitalise on his start- check stats

If Rohit Sharma is not able to capitalise on good starts then Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw might grab the place in the last few Test matches. The 33-year-old is yet to score a century away from India despite having as many as 7 Test tons under his belt. But the likes of Mayank and Shaw have also failed to score a ton away from India. Thus, Rohit Sharma is likely to play at least a couple of test matches before any decision.

At lunch break on Day 2, India’s score reads 97/1 with KL Rahul unbeaten on 48 at the crease. The visitors still trail by 86 runs. Resuming Day 2 at 21/0, India openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul played cautiously and the duo saw off the first hour without a single hiccup. Both batsmen were looking set to make the English bowlers toil on the park.

Both batsmen mixed caution with aggression and they were about to see out the first session, but Rohit (36) went for a hook shot off the bowling of Ollie Robinson, but he ended up giving a simple catch to Sam Curran.
