IND vs BAN Test: KL Rahul Press Conference: BCCI’s decision to appoint Cheteshwar Pujara ahead as vice-captain ahead of Rishabh Pant has raised a few eyebrows. It has raised the question if the selectors have lost faith in Pant? But stand-in captain KL Rahul has offered a more blunt response to BCCI and selectors’ whim on changing captaincy and vice-captaincy. KL Rahul responded to the query saying, “I don’t know the criteria.” Follow India vs Bangladesh LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.

“I at least don’t know what the criteria is. Whoever is picked you give yourself a pat on your back. Even for me, when I was named the vice-captain, you get happy, you have the responsibility of the team. It really doesn’t change much. Everybody knows their role and responsibility and how much the team appreciates their contribution. Rishabh and Puji both have been brilliant for us. They have done the job so many times. We don’t really think that much. He tries to take the responsibility. We carry on as a team,” KL Rahul said in the pre-match press conference on Monday.

Over the last 12 months, BCCI has had frequent captaincy and vice-captaincy changes. While Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah are the designated Test captains, there hasn’t been any identified leader to take the deputy role. Rishabh Pant was the vice-captain in England as Bumrah led. In South Africa, Pant was also the vice-captain. However, all of a sudden, Pant has been demoted in favour of Pujara for the role.

Rohit Sharma Injury: KL Rahul is also doubtful whether Rohit Sharma will be able to return for the 2nd Test. Rohit is nursing a finger injury that he suffered in the 2nd ODI. He is out of the 1st Test.

“Rohit Sharma is a very important player for us. He is an experienced player and the captain of our team. Fingers crossed… we are hoping he recovers quickly and returns for the second Test,” KL Rahul said.

WTC Finals: KL Rahul who is on a captaincy audition in Rohit Sharma’s absence is aiming to take inspiration from England’s Test approach. The aggressive approach has helped England turn their fortunes around. In the 1st Test against Pakistan, they scored nearly 100 runs at over 6 run rate.

“It’s very exciting to see the way England are playing. It has worked for them really well. Every team has its own way of playing. We also have to play aggressively to be in contention for the WTC Finals,” Rahul said.
