The Saurashtra pacer was unlucky to miss out on the first Test, but in the second Test against Bangladesh, he would be hoping luck favors him.Follow India vs Bangladesh LIVE Updates on InsideSport.IN.
The Saurashtra pacer has been waiting on the wings for a long time. Despite his Test debut back in 2010, it has taken him 12 years to earn a recall. The last time, he featured in India colours was back in 2018 in a T20 against Bangladesh in the Nidahas Trophy.
However, as he received a surprise call, BCCI’s logistics department could not arrange his visa on time. Hence, the 31-year-old is yet to receive his visa papers. But as of Tuesday, he is still at home in Rajkot. He could only join the squad for the 2nd Test.

The 31-year-old left-arm pacer played his only Test in 2010, against South Africa in Centurion. Since then, he has played seven ODIs and 10 T20Is but was never considered for the five-day game. However, with Mohammad Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna all injured, he has earned a recall.
Jaydev Unadkat comeback to Team India
Jaydev Unadkat has been in and around Team India for over a decade. Unadkat replacing Shami may not be quite a like-for-like replacement. As per sources, the experienced pacer was chosen based on his current form. He picked up 19 wickets in 10 games during the just concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy, making him the tournament’s top wicket-taker.
Unadkat would break Parthiv Patel’s record for the longest time between two Tests by an Indian cricketer if he is given the opportunity to play in one of the two Tests in Bangladesh.

IND vs BAN Test: Why is Jaydev Unadkat unlikely to feature in 1st Test?
- The delay in arrival means he will have only one session of practice with the squad.
- He will only reach Bangladesh 24 hours before the 1st Test.
- The likes of Shardul Thakur, Navdeep Saini and other pacers had two days of full practice in Chattogram.
- Although Unadkat has done well with the red ball in domestic cricket. Shardul is ahead in pecking order.
- He has proven his mettle with the ball and the bat in both India and challenging conditions in England.
- Hence, Shardul will retain his place.
- Umesh Yadav is the other pacer who has not got many opportunities.
- But as he is fully fit, he will continue to play at least in the subcontinent conditions.
