Before Pujara, only seven Indians had their names in the 7000 Test run club. Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar tops the list for most runs in Test cricket. He is followed by current India batting coach Rahul Dravid, and then the Little Master Sunil Gavaskar as the only Indians with 10 thousand or more Test runs. The other three members are VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag and Virat Kohli, who was there with him in the middle when he breached the milestone.
Pujara though couldn’t convert his start into a big score as he was dismissed for 24 runs in the 1st innings in Mirpur. He played 55 balls, scored two boundaries at a strike rate of 43.63.

Before Chattogram, India’s number three last scored a Test century against Australia on January 3, 2019. Since then, Pujara has played 28 Tests and has failed to breach the magical three-figure mark. Pujara’s highest in this period was 91 against England in Leeds in 2021. Since February 2109, the veteran batter has played 29 Tests and scored 1366 runs at a dismal average of 27.87.
IND vs BAN: Make or break series for Cheteshwar Pujara, time running out
- Pujara is not getting any younger. The veteran will turn 35 in January 2023
- With BCCI selectors already phasing out Ajinkya Rahane, they have given a warning to Pujara to perform or perish.
- With the likes of Abhimanyu Easwaran, Suryakumar Yadav, Prithvi Shaw, & Rajat Patidar waiting in the wings, this is a make-or-break series for Pujara.
- For the same, he spent extra minutes with Dravid to iron out chinks. Getting out to pacers outside the off stump has been the biggest problem for Pujara.
- The right-hand batter addressed that issue with Dravid. With a new selection panel coming up in January 2023, this series will decide Pujara’s status as a Test batter.
