Be it Tests, ODIs, or T20Is, Team India hasn’t been able to play to its full potential. Or should one say has faltered on big occasions. This has resulted in BIG DISASTERS for the national cricket team across formats in the last 11 months.
1. India lose 2-1 to South Africa in Tests
South Africa came from behind to beat India 2-1 in 3-Test-series at home.Despite gaining an early lead by winning the Cape Town Test, India was outclassed 2-1 in the 3-match Test series by South Africa at the start of the year. India lost the next two Tests in Johannesburg and Durban by 7 wickets, respectively. With this, India lost a golden chance of winning their maiden Test series on South African soil. Also, India lost its long-serving Test captain, Virat Kohli, who decided to step down a few days later, ending a glorious run as India’s best Test captain.

2. Embarrassment at Edgbaston vs England
The standout disappointment in Test cricket for India came in the rescheduled 5th Test against England in July this year. After dominating the Test match for the first three days, and setting England a target of 378 runs to win in the 4th innings of a Test match, India lost the game by 7 wickets. Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow smashed hundreds each to help England register a famous win over India. The series ended in 2-2 draw.

3. India Blanked 3-0 by South Africa in ODIs
In ODIs too, the year didn’t start on a good note for the Blues. In the 3-match-series against South Africa in January 2022, India was outclassed 3-0 by Proteas in their backyard. India lost both of their ODIs in Paarl, followed by the third ODI in Cape Town, bringing and end to a disappointing tour to South Africa.

4. India forced to 2-2 draw vs South Africa at home in T20Is
If the overseas embarrassment wasn’t enough, India was made to go through one more in 2022, this time on home soil. Under Rishabh Pant’s captaincy, India lost the first two matches in Delhi and South Africa in June. However, the team avoided the embarrassment of losing the T20I series on home soil, by winning the next two games in Vizag and Rajkot. The fifth and the final ODI in Bengaluru was washed out due to rain. This meant that the series ended in a drawn one, with both the teams taking 2 games each.
5. Knocked out of T20 World Cup by England
India’s wait to win an ICC title got extended by at least an year, when the Blues led by Rohit Sharma were knockout out by England in the semi-final in Adelaide. England hammered India by 10 wickets and comfortable chased down 169 runs for victory. India last won an ICC title in 2013, and their only T20 World Cup win came way back in 2007.

6. India lose ODI series 1-0 to New Zealand
New Zealand beat India 1-0 in 3-match-series in their backyard. This was India’s second bilateral series loss in 2022.The rut continues for India in ODIs. After winning the T20 series with a 1-0 margin, India lost the ODI series to New Zealand with the same margin. The 3-match series was affected by rain. India lost the first ODI in Auckland by seven wickets. New Zealand chased down 307 runs to win inside 48 overs and made a mockery of the Indian bowling attack. The remaining two games in Hamilton and Christchurch were rain-affected ones, and India lost their second bilateral series of 2022.

7. One-wicket loss to Bangladesh in Mirpur
Bangladesh defeated India by 1 wicket in the 1st ODI in Mirpur on Sunday.Arguably the biggest stunner for the year 2022 came from Bangladesh in Mirpur on Sunday night. Team India batted poorly to post 186, but later bowled brilliantly to reduce Bangladesh to 136/9. With the victory well within its reach, India lost control of the game as tailenders Mehidy Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman stitched 51-run stand for the last wicket to stun India by 1 wicket in Mirpur. With this, Bangladesh has now taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Now, India is staring down the barrel, with two matches remaining in the three-match series against Bangladesh. One more slip, and India will lose its first ODI series against Bangladesh since 2015. It’s now or never for Team India. One more slip, and the year 2022 will be ready to add the 8th SIN against Team India’s account.
Things went right down to the wire but it was Bangladesh who won the first ODI.#TeamIndia will look to bounce back in the second ODI of the series 👍 #BANvIND

8. ODI series loss in Bangladesh
Despite Rohit Sharma’s heroic effort with the bat, India slipped to a five-run defeat against Bangladesh in the second ODI. It marked India’s first-ever defeat against Bangladesh in a bilateral ODI series. The Men in Blue were triumphant in all their four previous tours to Bangladesh but now have gone down in humiliating fashion. It sumps up their year, which has been nothing short of a disappointment.
