India missed a golden chance to seal the ODI series in Vizag. They were completely outplayed by Australia, who handed Rohit Sharma & Co the heaviest defeat in terms of balls. India have two days before playing Steve Smith & Co in Chennai. Left-arm swing bowling has again caused a headache for the hosts, with Mitchell Starc picking up eight wickets in two games. Batting has looked abysmal, with big guns Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav failing in two consecutive games.
IND vs AUS: Australia eye series win & World Number one ODI Ranking
Australia now will be eying a series win and World Number ranking in ODIs. The visitors have looked lethal with the ball in hand and will look to continue with the same form.
How can Australia become World No.1?
- India are currently the World No.1 side in ODI cricket.
- A defeat would see them lose their spot to Australia.
- Both teams will be tied on 113 points should Australia win the series 2-1.
- On the other hand, India could jump to 115 points with a win and extend their lead at the top.
Incidentally, Australia had won the ODI series the last time they toured India. The Men in Blue, then captained by Virat Kohli had taken a 2-0 lead in the five-match series before a stunning comeback saw the Aussies win the series 3-2. India have since then not lost a bilateral series at home.
