IND vs AUS TEST Series: Prithvi Shaw Ranji TrophyMumbai opener Prithvi Shaw has sent a timely, or should one say a BLUNT reminder to the national selectors, with the bat ahead of the India vs Australia Test series. The discarded Indian opener slammed a triple hundred off just 326 balls to put Mumbai in a commanding position. In the process, the right-hand batter shattered records as his colossal 379 off 383 balls was the highest-ever score for a Mumbai batter in Ranji Cricket. The right-hander slammed his ton in only 107 balls and also presented his case for a spot in the Indian Test team for the upcoming home series against Australia. Follow INDIA vs Australia LIVE Updates & Indian Cricket LIVE Updates with InsideSport.IN

Assam elected to bowl first, but their decision backfired immediately. Shaw was in the mood and slammed his 12th First Class hundred for Mumbai. His innings included 15 boundaries and a six. The strike rate was also a good one, and he scored at a brisk pace of 93.46.

Having scored just 160 runs in his last seven innings, Shaw was under some sort of pressure going into the game against Assam. He stepped up on gas at the Amingaon Cricket Ground, Guwahati and punished all the Assam bowlers. His innings was laced with gracious shots and authoritative strokeplay all around the wicket.

Will selectors include Shaw for the home Test series vs Australia?

Make no mistake about it, but the openers slot is up for grabs for the home series against Australia. The 4-Test-series against Australia starts from February 09 and the two teams will fight for the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

After KL Rahul’s failure against Bangladesh in the 2-Test-series in December, the selectors might look out for the Karnataka cricketer’s replacement in the Test squad. Experts like Gautam Gambhir and Wasim Jaffer have already questioned Rahul’s spot in the Test team.

With plenty of domestic experience under his belt, and a batting style laced with aggressive strokes, Prithvi Shaw has a good chance of staging a comeback in the Test team.

Shaw, made his Test debut in October 2018 against West Indies in Rajkot. He made the occasion special by slamming a hundred on debut. However, he was unable to continue for long and was dropped after the 1st Test against Australia in Adelaide in December 2020.

Since then, Shubman Gill has taken over as the third choice opener for Team India in Test cricket. With a hundred against Bangladesh in the last Test series, Gill might be the frontrunner at the moment. However, given the form Shaw is in and especially playing at home, the Mumbai cricketer could prove to be the right choice against aggressive Aussies come February.
